OUR POST-OP, MUSCULOSKELETAL & SPORTS RELATED INJURY PROGRAM
While following specific post-op protocols for shoulder, neck, back, hip, knee and ankle/foot, we will provide evidence-based and individualized treatment programs to each of our patients, utilizing therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, and treatment modalities in order to achieve good progress in a timely manner.
In my clinical experience, experiences such as low back pain, trochaneric bursitis, ilioibial band syndrome, patellofemoral syndrome, ACL dysfunction and ankle/foot pain have been successfully treated through correction of the lower extremity biomechanical alignment. This is also key in preventing injuries in individuals who participate in sports and prolonged weight-bearing activities.
TMJ pain, headaches and neck pains were also effectively alleviated by improving muscle length-tension relationship through postural correction. We will also provide carry-over programs, that may include home exercises and body mechanics training, emphasizing prevention and maintenance, to ensure long-term effect in our patients' lives.
OUR AQUATIC THERAPY PROGRAM
We will be utilizing the YMCA pool to perform aquatic therapy techniques such as Ai Chi, Aquatic PNF, Bad Ragaz Ring method, Aquatic Feldenkrais, Halliwick and Watsu.
Aquatic therapy has been very effective in improving range of motion, balance, muscle tone and overall functional mobility in patients with musculoskeletal and neurological problems. Buoyancy and hydrostatic pressure of water provides a distal to proximal pressure gradient for patient with lymphedema and venous edema. I have had success in improving sit-to-stand and dynamic balance in a hemiplegic stroke patient.
OUR WOUND CARE AND LYMPHEDEMA PROGRAM
Our program includes manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), bandaging, kinesiotaping techniques and compression garments to facilitate improved lymphatic and venous circulation. Patients will be given a simple home program to encourage compliance and ensure proper treatment carryover.
We will utilize proper debridement techniques and special wound dressings to treat post-traumatic, decubitus, venous, arterial, diabetic and post-surgical ulcers.
I have also been able to successfully achieve wound closure and healing by incorporating MLD, wound electrical stimulation and negative pressure therapy into the treatment process.
"I have had a patient receiving wound care for a very severe wound of the foot. The wound care department, in particular Karren Ko..., have been doing an outstanding job of taking care of this patient. I have no doubt that without their debriedement, dressing changers and continual care of this patient he would have lost his foot..."
